YouTube kills the MTV-Star: Every minute, more than 500 music videos are uploaded onto video platforms like YouTube or Vimeo. Bloggers, musicians, journalists and scientists of the norient network sent their favourite video clips. A selection of these videos are used in «Stereo Types».
An alogrithm based generator calculates upon various thematic and formal parameters which fragment of a clip fits best to the next. Like this, a never ending and always changing stream is mixed with an audio track into a new music clip. In the end, the global variety is reduced to one clip, emphasizing worldwide similarities in music videos.
«Stereo Types» is a LED installation featuring a remix of over 400 music videos by bands all over the globe. The collection is curated by norient, the network for local and global sounds an media culture.
«Stereo Types» is using Automatic Cinema to generate the never ending stream of videos. The original clips were automatically cut with Heksler, the automatic cut finder and video tagger software.
Using a Kinect device, «Stereo Types» is determing the position of the viewer in front of the screen and changing the soundtrack accordingly.
